Rhubarb Crisp and Rhubarb Pie Competition 
 

Event Challenge

Islanders have a great love for delectable desserts to round out their lobster suppers. The Summerside Lobster Carnival is presenting the very first Rhubarb Pie and Rhubarb Crisp Competition. Amateur bakers can eagerly compete for the chance to win prizes and earn the title of champion. The event promises to be a sweet celebration of community spirit and culinary talent.  

 

Contest Day: Friday, July 12, 2024

 

Check-in at the registration table between 1 - 1:15 pm in the Summerside Seafood Supreme Lobster Demonstration & Food Tent, Lobster Carnival grounds, Credit Union Place.
Judging starts at 1:15 pm. 

Trivia and complimentary rhubarb crisp during judging.

Categories

Rhubarb Crisp:

  • Filling must be rhubarb only, no other fruit or nut combinations allowed. 

  • Filling must be made from scratch (homemade). 

  • Topping can be crisp or crumble.

  • Flavourings are baker's choice

Rhubarb Pie:

  • Must be a homemade pastry crust (shell) for the pie, can be one or two crusts.

  • Pie can have a decorative top (such as lattice).

  • Pie filling must be rhubarb only, no other fruit or nut combinations allowed.

  • Pie filling must be made from scratch (homemade).

  • Flavourings are baker's choice.

Pies will be judged on:

  • Presentation

  • Crust (colour, texture, doneness and flavour)

  • Filling (consistency, texture and flavour)

  • Overall impression

Rules

1. Contestants cannot be professional chefs or bakers.
 

2. Contestants may submit only one entry per category – 1 entry equals one rhubarb pie and/or one rhubarb crisp in a 9 inch pie plate.
 

3. Pies/ crisps will be judged on taste and appearance
 

4. Entries must be individual – no team entries
 

5. Blind judging will be done by three judges.
